House moves in Shelf
Shelf is a hill village north-east of Halifax, on the way toward Bradford, about four miles from 16 Albion Court, Halifax HX1 1YN. It is still Calderdale. Postcodes are HX3. Stone houses line the older streets, with later homes around them. Shelf Hall Park is the park Calderdale names in the village. The main road carries traffic that is not local, so a removal van on the brow of the hill needs a proper stop, not a hope. Side streets are quieter and often tighter. Tell us which you have. People sometimes describe Shelf as the edge of Bradford. For council tax, bins and schools it is Calderdale. Do not register with the wrong council because a shop over the boundary is nearer. The drive from our Albion Court base is a cross-town climb through Northowram or out via Hipperholme, depending on the traffic. Four miles on those roads is not four miles on a motorway. Allow the hill. Houses are the work: family homes, cottages, a few flats. Stairs in the older properties turn quickly. A sofa that was built upstairs may need to come apart or come out by another door. Ask us before you assume. Garages on sloping drives may not take the van. We will park on the road if it is safe. If it is not, we carry. Shelf Moor Road is a name you will see on local health listings. We will not invent a surgery phone. Use NHS.uk for the current site. There is no railway station in Shelf. Halifax or Brighouse are the stations, and neither is next door. Buses serve the village. Northowram Library is the nearest branch we can confirm is open on the council list. Calderdale's dog control page still mentions a Shelf library and village hall car park. We are not going to claim a staffed library is open there if it is not on the current library list. Check the council page if you hoped to print documents in the village. Insurance is provided. Ask us what is covered when you book. Call 01422747860 with the street and a note about the main road if your door opens onto it.

Moving in Shelf: common questions
Is Shelf in Calderdale or Bradford?
The village we move in is Calderdale, with HX3 postcodes. Council tax goes to Calderdale. Do not use a Bradford council page for bins.
How far is it from Halifax centre?
About four miles from our Albion Court base, and the roads are hilly, so the drive takes longer than the miles suggest.
Is there a library in the village?
Calderdale's current library list we used does not show a staffed Shelf branch. Northowram Library is the nearest one we can confirm. The dog control page still names a Shelf hall car park.
