A town in a bowl
Halifax sits in the Calder valley. The centre is relatively flat for a few streets, then the roads climb to Pellon, Boothtown, Southowram and Warley. That shape decides more about moving day than the brochure photos. A van that cannot stop at the door means a carry. Say so when you book house removals.
Our base is 16 Albion Court, Halifax HX1 1YN, in the centre. Town-centre flats are a different job from a house in Skircoat Green. Compare areas on the where to live page rather than treating Halifax as one type of street.
Admin in the first weeks
Calderdale Council handles council tax and bins. Tell them when you have a completion date. NHS.uk is the place to find a GP with your new postcode. A practice can be full. Calderdale Royal Hospital at Salterhebble is the local A&E. Royal Mail redirection is worth starting before the van arrives, using the Post Office branch finder for the nearest counter.
If you are coming from another part of the UK, read moving out of Halifax the other way round: distance, keys and access at both ends. We do not move overseas.
