House moves in Southowram
Southowram stands on the hill south-east of Halifax, above the Calder valley, about two miles from 16 Albion Court, Halifax HX1 1YN. The road people mean is Bank, and the name is accurate. You climb out of town, and the village sits on the top with views back over Halifax and down toward Elland and Brighouse. Houses are stone terraces, cottages and later homes. The street pattern is a hill village, not an estate. Doors open onto lanes that fall away. A van at the door is not always possible, and a van below the door means every item is carried uphill or down, depending on which house you are leaving. Caddyfield Recreation Ground and Southowram Recreation Ground are both on Calderdale's lists. Use them as pins when you describe the street. They are not loading areas. Parking is tight because the houses were built before every home had two cars. If neighbours can leave a gap, it helps, but we do not rely on that until we see it. Winter ice on Bank is a real reason to move a start time. Tell us if the road was untreated the day before. We would rather wait an hour than slide a van on a hill. Inside, stairs are often steep and narrow. A double mattress is a normal problem, not a rare one. Lofts in older roofs can be low. If you want them emptied, say so and accept that we may refuse if the footing is poor. Gardens are small and stepped. A washing machine in an outhouse still counts if it is coming, and it must be drained. Postcodes are HX3. Some edges toward Siddal feel like the same hill. Siddal is the neighbourhood below, closer to the valley. Do not mix the two on the booking. Calderdale Council covers both. There is no station up here. Halifax station is down in town. The hospital at Salterhebble is on the valley side, nearer than it looks on a clear day and slower when Bank is busy. Insurance is provided. Ask us what is covered when you book. Call 01422747860 with a photo of the lane. Southowram is a short distance and a serious carry.

Moving in Southowram: common questions
Is Bank as steep as people say?
Yes. It is the road into the village, and it changes where the van can stop. Tell us if your door is part way up.
Is Southowram the same as Siddal?
No. Siddal is lower, toward the valley. They are neighbouring areas with different streets.
Can you do a small furniture move here?
Yes. A few large pieces still need a plan for the hill. See furniture removals and describe the carry.
